What is the Queensland Events Regional Development Program?

Queensland Events Regional Development Program (QERDP) is an investment program designed to extend the flow of economic and social benefits of events to regional Queensland.

The QERDP is a state-wide initiative that specifically invests in events located outside the Brisbane metropolitan area*. Since the program commenced in 2001 the program has invested more than $10 million has been invested into more than 500 events throughout Queensland.

Events supported range from music, fishing and food festivals, to camel races, kite surfing and cultural celebrations.

As diverse as these events are, they share a common outcome – giving a boost to local communities by bringing in business, creating jobs, attracting tourists and fuelling growth, prosperity and a tremendous sense of local pride.

The program is committed to enhancing existing events in regional Queensland, as well as assisting in the establishment of new events.

Grant rounds are conducted twice a year, typically in February and August.

All relevant application forms can be downloaded from the Queensland Events website. If you are unable to access the forms from the website, please contact the QERDP Secretariat on 1300 881 255.

*Events that take place within the City of Brisbane local authority area are excluded from this program. (Brisbane City Council provides assistance to art/cultural events through the Major Festivals and Cultural Projects Fund).

What we look for…

The QERDP is not intended as a source of ongoing, year-on-year funding to event organisers. It is a development program.

There is a strong emphasis on encouraging and supporting the introduction of initiatives and elements in order to help an event grow and prosper.

Safeguarding future sustainability through the development of business, marketing and succession plans, as well as the identification of new revenue streams, are critical to the program’s success.

Events which are successful under this program best meet the following key objectives:

- To increase local economic activity and development;
- To enhance the profile and appeal of the destination in which they are held;
- To enhance the visitor experience; and
- To demonstrate future growth and sustainability.
