The Asia Pacific Screen Awards is an international cultural initiative of the Queensland Government through Queensland Events and a unique collaboration with CNN International, UNESCO and FIAPF – International Federation of Film Producers Associations. The awards acclaim films that best reflect their cultural origins and demonstrate cinematic excellence. Ms Bligh said that the nominees, across nine Award categories and representing 17 countries and areas, were indicative of the extraordinary filmmaking talent and creativity of the Asia-Pacific region. “I was enormously impressed by the quality and diversity of films celebrated at the inaugural Asia Pacific Screen Awards last year and this year the nominees represent the creativity and breadth of talent that exists in the burgeoning film industries of our region,” she said. “The finalists in the Awards were selected from more than 180 films entered from 43 countries. This is a great response to the Awards from the filmmakers of Asia-Pacific. “It’s exciting that many of the nominees will be at the gala Awards Ceremony to be held on the Gold Coast on November 11.
