MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER OF QUEENSLAND
A successful event is a real experience. It inspires, excites and unites a community. It produces significant sporting, entertainment or cultural moments. And, importantly, it delivers lucrative economic benefits to its community.
Queensland Events attracts, supports, grows and promotes successful events in Queensland. Through strategic investment in an exciting and eclectic portfolio of events, the organisation is helping to drive the State’s economic development.
While these events vary from major international tournaments to small community-run festivals, all share a common purpose – to boost the social and economic prosperity of Queensland.
Queensland Events was established by the Queensland Government in 1989 following the outstanding success of World Expo ’88. Queensland Events also operates a subsidiary company, Queensland Events Gold Coast – the owner and operator of the popular Gold Coast Airport Marathon and the biennial Pan Pacific Masters Games.
Managed under my personal portfolio, the organisation has successfully secured and invested in hundreds of world-class events for Queensland. It is estimated that these events have produced more than one billion dollars in additional revenue for the state’s economy.
In addition, the innovative Queensland Events Regional Development Program has ensured that benefits reach far beyond cities and into smaller communities throughout the state. More than $13.6 million has been invested in 645 regional events since the program began in 2001.
No matter where events are held in Queensland, they showcase the state’s scenic attractions and help boost tourism, by attracting visitors before, during and after an event, as well as future tourists through regional, national and international marketing and promotional opportunities.
Whether you are considering a visit to Queensland or live in a local city or town, I encourage you to take advantage of the wonderful range of festivals, sporting celebrations, cultural exhibitions and other exciting attractions happening around the State in the year ahead. It’s all part of the experience of a Queensland event.
